What's the most reliable ignition system for a gas fireplace?

A millivolt system runs on a standing pilot whose heat generates its own tiny electrical current — no circuit board, no wall outlet, no house power anywhere in the chain. The most common no-light call we run every fall isn't a failed ignition system at all — it's spiders and dust clogging the pilot assembly and burner orifices over the off-season. A thermocouple or thermopile drifting out of spec is an inexpensive part and a single visit. Annual service, late summer or early fall (from $189), keeps either ignition style dependable before you're depending on it.
