What time of year is best to have a chimney swept?
Weaverville splits two ways, so the best sweep time depends on what you own — but late summer to early fall suits both. New Reems Creek construction runs sealed gas that wants an annual service; older downtown homes carry original masonry fireboxes that need a real sweep. And because this north-facing valley warms slowly, your season starts crisp.
New builds versus old downtown
Weaverville has been growing fast, and the newer homes going up around Reems Creek mostly come with clean, sealed gas fireplaces — efficient, but wanting a yearly appliance check on the pilot, burner, and venting rather than a chimney brushing. The older houses in and around downtown are a different animal, with inefficient original masonry fireboxes and real flues that build creosote.
Sorting out which you have tells you whether late summer brings a sweep, a service, or both. Either job is easiest booked before the fall rush fills the mountain calendar.
A valley that warms slowly
Weaverville faces north, so spring comes late and the cool clings on — the Ox Creek and Barnardsville Road stretches sit even deeper in the cold pocket. Schedule in August or September and the work is done well ahead of the first fire, whichever direction the weather turns.

The spring option
Prefer to sweep at season's end? On a downtown masonry flue it clears the acidic residue before the humid summer corrodes tile and mortar, and it evicts any nesting material. For a newer gas unit, the same end-of-season timing lets us catch a worn gasket or lazy pilot before it's forgotten all summer. Either way, you open next winter on a clean, inspected chimney.
