When is the best time to schedule a fireplace installation?

Candler's subdivisions went up fast, and most came with decorative builder-grade fireboxes that were never meant to heat anything. The best time to upgrade one into a real heater is late spring through early fall — with two local wrinkles: out here propane is the working fuel for most gas hearths, and the Hominy Valley bowl rewards clean-burning sealed appliances.

From decorative box to actual heat

Candler's fast-growing subdivisions shipped with basic decorative fireboxes — fine to look at, useless in a cold snap — and owners here typically want a real heat-producing upgrade within a few years of moving in. Sizing is where that upgrade gets done right: figure around 20 Btu per square foot in a moderate climate, and WNC pushes that up. A properly sized sealed unit turns the living-room feature into the backup heat source it should have been on day one.

The Hominy Valley bowl rewards clean burners

Candler sits in a natural bowl, and what the valley's chimneys put out tends to hang around — which is why sealed, clean-burning appliances are the neighborly choice here: sealed-combustion direct-vent gas, or an EPA-certified wood unit if you want cordwood. They're also simply the better performers; the open smoky hearth loses on every count.

Fuel first, then the Buncombe paperwork

Out here propane is the working fuel for most gas hearths, and that adds one step to the schedule: we set the regulator, run and pressure-test the piping, and connect the appliance as the licensed gas contractor while your propane supplier coordinates the tank — a sequence that runs smoothest when it starts by midsummer. We pull the Buncombe County permit and meet the inspector, and the showroom at 629 Emma Rd is fifteen minutes east. Call (828) 545-0525.
