Easy-use heat still needs a clean pilot

A vent-free set is popular here precisely because it lights with a switch and asks nothing of you — no wood, no power, no chimney. The trade-off is that its safety sensor depends on one small pilot flame sitting exactly where the factory aimed it. Let a spring and summer of dust and cobwebs settle into that assembly and the flame burns off-center, the sensor misreads it, and the fireplace shuts down in the middle of a cool valley evening.

That is a cleaning, not a repair, and it's why we push service in late summer before you lean on the unit.

Main Street homes versus the Spartanburg Highway subdivisions

Where you live changes the odds. The older homes downtown and around Laurel Park breathe enough that a true oxygen shutoff is unlikely — assume the pilot. The tighter new subdivisions off Spartanburg Highway seal up better, and in a small closed room a vent-free unit can genuinely draw the air down and trip for real. Those units also carry room-size Btu limits and aren't allowed in bedrooms.

Henderson County work, 25 minutes from the showroom

Any gas we touch gets permitted with Henderson County and pressure-tested — running fuel is licensed work in North Carolina, and a showroom or handyman legally can't do it.
