Wood-to-gas vs wood-to-electric conversion — which is better for my fireplace?

In Fletcher, wood-to-gas is usually the easy winner — you're on the natural-gas main, and the 1990s subdivisions here are full of builder-grade fireboxes that a sealed gas insert transforms into a real, outage-ready heater. Wood-to-electric fits a bonus room or a tight budget, but for a main living space it's the look plus a space heater's warmth, gone when the power is.

Builder-grade boxes were built to a price

A lot of Fletcher's fireplaces came with the house — builder-grade prefab boxes from the 1990s subdivisions, put in to hit a price point, not to heat. Converting one to gas is one of the more satisfying upgrades we do: a sealed insert drops into that opening and turns a decorative firebox into a unit that runs 70 percent efficient or better. Because you're already on the natural-gas main, the fuel-line side is comparatively clean here — none of the tank logistics a propane town carries — which keeps the wood-to-gas path attractive for a main living room you actually want to heat.

The commercial corridor, and the licensed line either way

Fletcher also has a commercial side, with steady demand along the I-26 and airport corridor. A lobby or office often wants a linear gas fireplace as a statement — a Napoleon Vector or a Heat & Glo linear — while an electric linear like the Dimplex IgniteXL Bold suits a build-out where no gas runs and the fireplace is purely visual. The same rule applies commercial or residential: electric is ambiance and supplemental heat, gas is a real heater that survives an outage.

Whichever it is, running or extending the gas line is licensed work — we pull the Henderson County permit and pressure-test the line, and we're twenty minutes south. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free in-home or on-site assessment.
