In Asheville, a big-box propane fire table will light on a Montford porch or a South Asheville patio and look fine for a season — but we're headquartered right here on Emma Road, and most of town sits on a natural-gas main we can plumb a real pit into permanently. That permanent connection is the difference between a throwaway and a keeper.
A hidden tank versus a line in the ground
A bargain table runs off a 20-pound propane cylinder stuffed into the pedestal — you'll haul it to refill and swap it in the middle of a gathering. Asheville has natural-gas service through much of Montford, West Asheville, North Asheville, and Biltmore Village, so we can run a permanent, permitted line straight to a dealer-grade pit and you never touch a tank again.
Running or extending that gas line is licensed work in North Carolina. A patio store can sell you the shell, but it legally can't connect it to fuel. We can, and we pull the Buncombe County permit, pressure-test the line, and meet the inspector.
Why the better pit gets used more here
Our elevation keeps nighttime temperatures in the 20s deep into spring, so an outdoor fire feature earns its keep most of the year — not just a handful of July evenings. A small big-box burner gives you a polite flame; a dealer pit with a heavier-gauge pan and a stainless burner throws real, sit-around-it heat when the air actually bites. Thin painted steel is the other tell, flaking and rusting at the seams after a couple of freeze-thaw cycles on an exposed patio.
