Are outdoor fires and fire pits allowed inside Asheville city limits?
In Brevard you're in Transylvania County, so Asheville's ordinance doesn't reach you — and most of Brevard and the surrounding cabins run on propane, not a gas main. A contained recreational fire or a propane fire pit is generally allowed with an approved pit, clearance, an adult attending, and a fast douse. Transylvania's dry-season burn bans suspend open wood fires until they lift.
Propane country changes the build
There's no natural-gas main to most of Brevard, so a gas fire pit here runs off propane. We set the regulator, run the buried outdoor-rated line, and connect the feature — a display piece like the Napoleon Uptown from our showroom, for instance — with the tank itself coordinated through your propane supplier. It's a different build than a natural-gas town, and getting the orifices and pressure right is exactly why it's licensed work.
Rain is hard on an outdoor hearth
Brevard catches 80-plus inches of rain a year, and the wet March-through-June season cracks crowns, spalls brick, and rusts dampers on masonry — the crawl spaces and chimney chases here are notoriously moisture-prone. An outdoor gas feature built with the right materials and set clear of standing water holds up far better through that soaking season than an open masonry pit.
