A lot of Sylva and Cullowhee housing is rentals near Western Carolina, and much of it is owned by people who don't live nearby. Those houses go quiet over winter break and between semesters — occupied hard one month, empty the next. For an owner an hour or more away, a propane tank at that property is out of sight and easy to forget.

A monitor changes that. It reads the level and warns you before the tank runs out, and ties into your propane supplier for delivery driven by real numbers rather than a guess about how heavily the place is being used.

The valley runs cold and damp

The Tuckasegee valley drains cold air and holds river moisture, which rusts dampers and degrades flue liners faster than you'd expect — and raises the freeze risk in an empty house. That's the practical reason a monitored, well-supplied tank matters more here than in a milder spot.

The monitor itself is your propane company's device; it clips to the tank gauge and reports over cellular. Many suppliers offer them directly.
