Your tank gauge reads percent of capacity, not gallons, and a 'full' tank tops out around 80% by design — the extra space lets the liquid expand. Keeping 20% in reserve isn't just a running-out cushion; a nearly empty tank in a cold snap can't build enough vapor pressure to feed your fireplace well.
