Many Backgrounds. One Standard.

Are the fireplaces sold at big-box stores the same quality as showroom brands?

Usually not. Big-box fireplaces are built to hit a price point — thinner materials, simpler burners, shorter warranties, and parts that get discontinued fast. The showroom brands we carry, like Napoleon, Heat & Glo, Kozy Heat, and Valor, are built as real heaters with serviceable parts and limited lifetime warranties. You feel the difference in year ten, not year one.

Where the price gets cut

A cheaper fireplace saves money somewhere, and it's rarely somewhere you see on day one. It's usually thinner steel, a lighter-duty burner, a less convincing log set, and electronics that aren't built to be repaired so much as replaced. It looks fine in the box; the compromises show up under years of real use.

Showroom brands are engineered as heating appliances first. A Kozy Heat is built in Minnesota for cold-climate performance; a Valor throws radiant heat with no electricity at all. That build quality is the whole point of a specialty line, and it's what you're comparing against.

Warranty and serviceability tell the real story

Nearly every gas unit we carry comes with a limited lifetime warranty on the core components, and — just as important — parts that stay available and a local team that stocks and services them. When a pilot assembly clogs or a valve ages out, it's a routine fix.

Value units often carry short warranties and get orphaned when the model line turns over. A discontinued firebox with no parts isn't a bargain — it's a replacement waiting to happen. Long-term serviceability is where showroom brands quietly earn their price.

Heat that matters in a mountain winter

In WNC we lean on our hearths, and never more than after Helene, when the homes that stayed warm were the ones with a working wood or gas fireplace. That's exactly when a lightweight unit disappoints and a real heater — millivolt or battery-backup ignition, solid Btu output, honest efficiency — earns every dollar.

If backup heat is part of why you're buying, quality isn't a luxury; it's the feature. Come see the difference lit up at our Asheville showroom, or call (828) 545-0525.
