Are ventless fireplaces safer in an older drafty house than in a tightly sealed new home?

Propane and the fuel setup

New developments tip toward direct vent
The newer developments mixing in among the farmland and forest are built tight, and that is precisely where we do not recommend ventless: the humidity climbs and the honest margin shrinks. A sealed Kozy Heat Springfield 36, built for propane country, draws and exhausts combustion outside, so the airtightness that fights vent-free stops mattering. And with the open valley layout out here, a lot of Mills River folks are better served putting fire outdoors, with a permitted gas fire pit sized for the entertaining season.
Our recommendation
Older, leaky home with the right room size and an owner who services it yearly, and ventless can fit, kept out of bedrooms and baths and sized honestly, with its oxygen-depletion sensor as a backstop only.
