Rural lot or in-town build?
Mars Hill is really two markets. Closer to the university, rentals and in-town homes favor a sealed direct-vent gas unit that lights from a switch and asks nothing between uses. Which one you're building tells you which way to frame. Both work — the mistake is framing gas-only and later wishing you'd kept wood.
Where wood still makes sense
This is one of the colder spots we serve, and on a rural wooded lot the wood option earns its keep — a Regency wood fireplace or Cascades wood stove delivers off-grid heat through a long mountain winter. If you'd rather have propane's convenience, we coordinate the tank with your supplier, set the LP orifices and regulator, and get the pressures right so it burns clean at elevation. Either way, decide before the framers leave; retrofitting a chimney later isn't worth the cost.
Permitted and pressure-tested in Madison County
Gas piping and propane connection are licensed work no showroom or mason can legally do. We run and pressure-test the line, pull the permit with Madison County, and meet the inspector.
