Why city fireboxes are easy candidates
Most of the older homes around Montford, West Asheville, and North Asheville were built with a true open masonry firebox and a working chimney, which is exactly what a gas-log conversion is designed around. Because these neighborhoods sit right on the natural-gas mains, the meter is usually already on the house, so the new line run stays short and the cost drivers stay simple. We tap that line, bring it into the firebox, set the logs on a burner, and add a shut-off and a control. The chimney you already own handles the venting, and nothing about the room's look has to change unless you want it to.
See both sets before you choose
Since we are headquartered at 629 Emma Rd, you do not have to guess at the look. Vented sets, like Real Fyre's cast-from-real-oak logs, throw the tall yellow flame with the damper open, so they are ambiance first, most of that heat goes up the chimney. Ventless sets run damper-closed and put real supplemental heat into the room, but they carry room-size Btu limits, add moisture to the air, and are not allowed in bedrooms or baths. Standing in front of both at the showroom usually settles it in about five minutes, and we would rather get you the right set than the priciest one.
Licensed, permitted, and pressure-tested
Asheville nights still drop into the 20s well into spring, so many homeowners ask about a sealed gas insert instead of loose logs, same firebox but far more heat that keeps working when the grid goes down. Whichever route you take, running the gas line is licensed work in North Carolina; a showroom or a mason can sell the box but cannot legally connect the fuel.
