Can a gas line be added to an existing wood-burning fireplace for gas logs?
Yes, and in Candler it usually runs on propane. Our fuel formula for the area is natural gas along the Asheville mains and propane out in Fairview, Candler, and the cabins, so we typically set your log burner for LP and run the licensed line from your tank into the existing firebox. Many newer Candler homes also have decorative builder-grade boxes worth a closer look first.
Propane, sized right
Because much of Candler is off the mains, a wood-to-gas conversion here generally means propane, which burns hotter per unit than natural gas and needs its own orifices and pressures. We build or convert the log set for LP so it burns clean instead of sooting the firebox, and coordinate the tank with your supplier while we handle the piping from tank to burner. Getting the fuel setup right is exactly the kind of licensed work a hardware-store log kit cannot legally do for you, and doing it wrong is what leaves people with a black, smelly firebox and a callback.
Decorative firebox or real heater
The fast-growing subdivisions off Enka-Candler and Sand Hill often came with a basic, decorative builder-grade firebox, and owners frequently want more than a pretty flame within a year or two of moving in. If it is a prefab box, loose logs are not the right fit and a listed gas insert is; if it is masonry, we can talk vented versus ventless. Hominy Valley sits in a natural bowl that holds air still, so a clean-burning sealed appliance is easy on local air quality too, which is a point in favor of a sealed insert over an open, vented set here.
Buncombe permit
Propane piping is licensed work, and a landscaper or delivery crew legally cannot connect it. We pull the Buncombe County permit, meet the inspector, and pressure-test the line before lighting.
