Many Backgrounds. One Standard.

A well-sized wood stove can heat most of a house — but "entire" depends on your layout. Ours are rated by square footage: the Regency Cascades F1500 heats up to 1,500 sq ft, so an open floor plan under that number can run on wood alone. Closed-off bedrooms and split levels stay cold without help moving the air.

It Comes Down to Square Footage — and Your Floor Plan

A wood stove is a radiant heat source: it warms the room it sits in hard, then that heat drifts to adjoining spaces. A stove like the Regency Cascades F1500 is EPA-certified, runs around 78% efficient, and is rated to heat up to 1,500 square feet. In a modern open-concept home where the kitchen, living, and dining flow together, one stove genuinely can carry the whole main level. In a 1940s Montford bungalow chopped into small rooms with doors and a hallway, that same stove will roast the living room and leave the back bedrooms twenty degrees cooler. Square footage is only half the answer — geometry is the other half.

Getting the Heat to Travel

You can stretch a stove's reach without central ducts, which we don't touch. Ceiling fans on low, run in reverse, push warm air off the ceiling and back down. Leaving interior doors open lets convection do its work. Two-story homes get a natural assist — heat rises, so an upstairs loft or bedroom above the stove often stays comfortable while a walkout basement below stays chilly. If a house is truly spread out, we'll be honest with you: a single stove is a heat-the-living-space play, with the furnace or a second appliance covering the far rooms.

Why Mountain Homeowners Still Want One

Even when a wood stove can't reach every room, it earns its place here for one reason: it needs no electricity. When Helene took the power out across Western NC for days, the homes that stayed warm were the ones with a working wood or gas hearth. A wood stove is total grid independence — heat you own outright, no ignition circuit, no blower, no utility. For a Fairview or Candler home off the gas main and prone to outages, "heats the whole house" matters less than "heats the room we all pile into when the lights go out." If you want maximum coverage, we'll size the stove to your actual layout during a free in-home assessment. Call (828) 545-0525.
