Can a wood stove heat my entire house?

For a lot of Hendersonville homeowners, a wood stove can heat the main living area but not the whole house — and there's a second question worth asking first. Much of Henderson County leans toward quiet, low-maintenance sealed gas because hauling and tending wood is real work. If you want wood's grid independence anyway, we'll size it to your layout.

Coverage vs. Effort

A wood stove throws serious radiant heat — the Regency Cascades F1500 is rated up to 1,500 square feet — but it asks something in return: you load it, you tend it, you sweep the chimney every fall. In a retirement-heavy town, plenty of our Laurel Park and Main Street customers decide that a sealed gas or gas-insert hearth gives them most of the warmth with none of the chores. Others love the ritual and the total self-reliance of wood, and for them the math is simply layout: an open ranch on Spartanburg Highway can run on one stove, while a two-story Main Street home leaves upstairs bedrooms cooler unless heat can travel up the stairwell. We tell you which camp your house falls into before you spend a dollar.

Older Homes, Aging Flues

Hendersonville's clay-heavy soil shifts foundations and stresses older masonry chimneys over the decades, and we see a lot of aging flues that aren't safe for a fresh wood fire without work. If you already have a masonry fireplace, a wood insert with a correctly sized stainless liner is often the smarter route than a freestanding stove — it drops into the existing opening, seals off the draft, and turns a heat-losing box into a real heater. Every wood install we do gets a Class A chimney or liner and a Henderson County permit, inspected before the first burn.
