Can I plumb a natural gas patio heater into my outdoor gas line instead of using propane tanks?

In Brevard, you're mostly in propane country — so rather than plumbing into a natural-gas main you don't have, we hard-plumb the patio heater to your home's large propane tank. No more hauling little bottles to a refill counter. In Transylvania's wet climate the line has to be buried, outdoor-rated, and properly protected, and the connection is licensed gas work.

Propane, done permanently

Brevard and the cabins around it run on propane far more than natural gas, and that actually works in your favor for a fixed heater: your big buried tank already holds far more fuel than a stack of patio bottles ever could. We run a permanent line from the tank to the heater, set the regulator and pressure for propane, and add a shutoff — so the deck heater is always ready and the cylinder-swap routine ends. The heater has to be an LP model or one we convert with the correct orifice.

Eighty inches of rain changes the details

Transylvania County catches 80-plus inches of rain a year, and that moisture is what cracks crowns, spalls brick, and rusts dampers on the chimneys up here. It's just as hard on outdoor gas fittings and buried connections, so we use outdoor-rated materials, seat the line at proper depth, and protect every junction against standing water. Homes with crawl spaces and chimney chases already fight moisture; the outdoor heater line gets the same careful, sealed treatment.

Permit with Transylvania County

Running or extending a propane line is licensed work in North Carolina — a hardscaper building your patio can't legally connect the fuel. We pull the Transylvania County permit, meet the inspector, and pressure-test the line. Brevard is about 40 minutes southwest of our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 545-0525.
