Two kinds of Asheville basement
The city gives us two very different below-grade rooms. In North Asheville and Montford, the basements are often original to older homes — low headroom, unfinished, a space being finished into a den for the first time. A sealed direct-vent gas fireplace fits there without cutting into the historic masonry chimney, which in these houses is usually undersized and lined for an older, smaller firebox anyway. Out in South Asheville, the newer construction gives you a daylight or walkout basement, and there the vent simply exits an above-grade wall — the easiest install we do.
The gas is already at the curb
One thing Asheville has over the propane towns west and south of us: natural-gas mains run through most of the city, so the fuel side is usually a matter of extending a line from your existing meter rather than setting a tank. We run that line — licensed gas piping is our lane and, by NC law, no showroom or mason can connect it — then pull the Buncombe County permit and meet the inspector.
