Can I put an electric fireplace in a bathroom?
Usually yes. An electric fireplace makes no combustion, no fumes, and needs no venting, so a bathroom is fine — as long as the unit is listed for a damp location, runs on a proper GFCI-protected circuit, and stays away from direct water. It's the easiest fireplace to put in a bathroom, and the Dimplex line we carry has the most convincing flame for it.
Why electric is the easy bathroom answer
Where gas brings venting rules and ventless brings outright bans, electric sidesteps all of it in a bathroom. There's no burner, no exhaust, no moisture added to the room — the flame is an LED effect and the heat is a small resistance element. That's why an electric unit is the one fireplace type with essentially no combustion-code hurdle in a bathroom.
A wall-mount or recessed model like the Dimplex IgniteXL Bold reads as a real linear fireplace across from a tub, and it can run flame-only in summer with the heat off.
The electrical and moisture caveats
The catch is water and wiring, not fire. Use a model whose listing allows a damp or bathroom location — not every plug-in unit qualifies — and keep it out of the splash zone around the tub or shower. Bathroom circuits are GFCI-protected for a reason, and a heater draws real current, so the unit should be on an appropriate circuit rather than piggybacked on an overloaded one.

What it will and won't do
Be honest with yourself about heat: an electric fireplace is supplemental, roughly 5,000 BTU and good for taking the chill off a small room — perfect for a bathroom's square footage, not a whole floor. And remember it's dead in a power outage, unlike a millivolt gas or wood unit; that's a non-issue in a bathroom but worth knowing after what Helene taught folks around here.
