Brevard, North Carolina

Can I put gas logs in my existing outdoor wood-burning fireplace?

Usually yes, but in Brevard the rain writes the first chapter. At 80-plus inches a year, outdoor masonry here cracks crowns, spalls brick, and rusts dampers faster than almost anywhere we serve — so we inspect the firebox and flue before speccing logs. Once it's sound, you get instant flame off your propane tank, no wood, no ash.

Wet-climate masonry gets checked first

Brevard and the rest of Transylvania County take some of the heaviest rainfall in the eastern United States, and outdoor fireboxes wear it. Crowns crack, brick faces spall, dampers and caps rust, and chimney chases stay damp long enough to do real damage — especially through the March-to-June wet season. A vented gas log set still drafts up that flue, so its condition matters. We look at the crown, the cap, the spark arrestor, and the firebox, and tell you straight whether anything wants sealing or repair before we add the logs.

Outdoor-rated logs that shrug off weather

Because the elements are the enemy here, we spec sets built for it. Real Fyre's hand-painted vented logs, cast from real oak, give you a genuinely convincing flame, and paired with an outdoor-listed burner they stand up to Brevard's damp far better than any indoor set would. If your firebox is too weathered to draft reliably, a sealed insert is the alternative — we'll tell you which way the honest call goes.

Propane country, licensed line

Brevard is propane country — most conversions here run off the home's tank rather than a gas main. We connect the regulator, size the piping for the log set, run it outdoor-rated to the firebox, permit it with Transylvania County, and pressure-test it. A hardscaper or handyman legally can't make that connection in North Carolina; we can. Call (828) 545-0525.
