Can I replace broken fireplace glass with regular glass?

No — many Fletcher homes have 1990s builder-grade gas fireplaces now old enough to crack a pane, and none of them take hardware-store glass. The panel is ceramic, rated for thousand-plus-degree heat and cut to the model; ordinary or tempered glass cracks or explodes. On these sealed direct-vent units the glass holds the combustion seal, so only the factory-matched pane is safe.

Builder-grade units reaching pane age

Fletcher's 1990s-era subdivisions came with builder-grade direct-vent gas fireplaces, and along the I-26 corridor new residential and commercial construction keeps adding more. Units that age eventually show it at the glass — a cracked pane, a tired gasket, sometimes both. The pane on these is glass-ceramic, built to sit inches off the flame and take a thousand-plus degrees indefinitely; the annealed glass from a hardware store would crack on the first hard fire, and shower-door tempered glass is rated for only a few hundred degrees. It's also cut to the exact firebox and bedded in a high-temp gasket rope, so a generic sheet won't seat or seal. We identify the make and model and source the correct factory panel, and most brands we carry still make them.

Homes and businesses alike

The airport-area commercial demand here runs high — offices, retail, and hospitality spaces with gas fireplaces and outdoor features — and a cracked pane in a public space is a liability, not just a repair. Whether it's a subdivision home off Cane Creek or a commercial lobby, replacing the glass properly means seating the factory pane, laying fresh gasket, and confirming the door seals so the firebox is airtight again.
