Can I roast marshmallows or make s'mores over my gas fireplace or gas logs?
No — don't roast anything over an indoor gas fireplace or gas log set. The burners, logs, and glass are built for looks and heat, not food. Drips of sugar and marshmallow foul the burner ports and ceramic logs, and vent-free units especially aren't built to handle food residue. For s'mores, take it outside — a real wood fire, or an outdoor gas fire pit where you can roast over a clean, high flame.
Why the indoor hearth is off-limits for food
Indoor gas fireplaces and log sets aren't cooking appliances. On a sealed direct-vent unit there's glass in the way — you literally can't reach the flame. On an open vented log set, sugar and marshmallow drips bake onto the burner ports and hand-painted ceramic logs, clogging the little gas holes that shape the flame and leaving soot and smell behind. On a ventless set it's worse: those units burn clean by design and rely on an oxygen-depletion sensor, and food fumes have no business in that mix.
It voids the warranty, too
Every gas unit we install is backed by the manufacturer's warranty plus our own workmanship guarantee, and burning food over the burner is exactly the kind of misuse that voids the manufacturer side. A Real Fyre set is cast and hand-painted to look like charred oak — a marshmallow bath ruins that finish, and it isn't something a cleaning fixes. It's not worth it for one s'more.
Where the s'mores belong
Take it outside. A wood fire is the traditional answer, and a purpose-built outdoor gas fire pit is the convenient one — flame at the turn of a knob, no hauling wood. Even then, roast over a clean, high flame, not over the decorative fire glass. If s'mores season is why you want a fire feature, tell us up front and we'll steer you to the right pit and run the outdoor gas line to it. Call (828) 545-0525.
