How dealer financing actually works behind the counter
Hearth dealers don't lend their own money — installments run through a bank or finance partner, and the dealer is essentially the introduction. That's why the fine print matters more than the poster in the window: promotional offers are typically subject to credit approval, and the terms you actually get are set by the lender after you apply, not by the salesperson before. None of that is sinister; it's just how consumer financing works everywhere. Our advice, and we give it about our own program too: get the full project price first, in writing, then look at financing — never the other way around. A payment plan should follow the quote, not shape it.
Questions worth asking any dealer — including us
Who is the actual lender? Is the quoted price the same whether I finance or pay outright? Does the financed amount cover the complete installed project — appliance, venting, gas line, permit — or just the unit, with the rest billed separately? What happens to the rate after any promotional period? A dealer who answers those plainly is a dealer you can work with. For our part: our lender is Wells Fargo, financing is available for qualified buyers on new installations, our free in-home estimate is the same price either way, and it covers the whole job because we're the licensed gas contractor doing all of it — no second contractor, no second bill for the fuel line.
