Many Backgrounds. One Standard.

How much of a deposit do fireplace companies require, and when is the rest due?

Most hearth companies take a deposit at contract signing — typically enough to cover ordering your specific unit and materials — with the balance due when the installation is complete. More important than the exact split is what triggers final payment: you want to owe the balance after the fireplace is installed, burning correctly, and squared away with the inspector — not before work starts.

Why deposits exist at all

Fireplaces aren't pulled off a shelf. Your unit gets ordered for your job — this model, this size, natural gas or propane, this venting configuration, this front — and the dealer commits real money to the manufacturer the day you sign. The deposit covers that commitment. It's the same reason a canceled custom order isn't painless for anyone: much of that equipment was configured for your wall, not the next customer's.

The payment structure that protects you

Whatever company you hire, look for three things in writing. First, an itemized contract — appliance, venting, gas line, permit, finish work — so both sides know exactly what the money buys. Second, a deposit that's a portion of the job, not the whole thing; walk away from anyone wanting full payment before work begins. Third, a balance tied to completion. On a gas installation in North Carolina that should mean the line is pressure-tested, the county permit is in play, and the fireplace lights and runs the way it should. We pull the permit with your county — Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, or Transylvania — and meet the inspector; that step belongs in the price, never bolted on after.

If cash flow is the concern

Financing is available on new installations for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval, through Wells Fargo — worth asking about if you'd rather not carry the project cost in one season. And because our in-home assessment and quote are free, you'll know the full number, deposit and all, before committing a dollar. Call (828) 545-0525 and we'll walk you through exactly how payment runs on your project — no mystery charges, at signing or at the end.
