Do I need a permit to install a gas fireplace?

Yes — a gas fireplace install in Brevard is permitted work, pulled through Transylvania County. Fuel here is mixed: downtown blocks may reach a gas main, but the cabins and outlying homes typically run propane, which we connect, regulate, and pressure-test under the same permit. Either way, we file it and meet the inspector.

Propane changes the details, not the permit

Out in the Connestee Falls and Sherwood Forest cabins, and most places off the downtown grid, you're on propane — and a propane hearth is still permitted work in Transylvania County. The permit covers the appliance connection, the regulator, and the piping; the tank itself we coordinate with your propane supplier. Propane also burns hotter per unit than natural gas and needs the right orifices and pressures, so the inspection matters — a wrong-fuel setup soots and underperforms. We set it up for LP from the start.

Brevard's wet season is the other half of the story

Transylvania catches 80-plus inches of rain a year, and it's hard on hearths — cracked crowns, spalled brick, rusted dampers, and moisture creeping into chimney chases and crawl spaces. A fair number of Brevard installs are really replacements, where a water-damaged firebox or a corroded flue gets swapped for a sealed direct-vent unit that doesn't rely on the failing masonry. That's permitted too, and the inspector verifies the new venting and clearances before it's lit.

Why we permit every line

Running or connecting gas — natural or propane — is licensed work in North Carolina. A showroom or a mason can sell you a firebox, but they legally can't fuel it; we can, and we permit and pressure-test every line we run. From Asheville it's about 40 minutes southwest, and we handle the Transylvania paperwork and the inspection walkthrough. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free quote.
