Do I need to know where my gas line is before getting a quote?
No. Finding your gas line, sizing it, and figuring out how far it has to travel to the firebox is our job — a core part of the free in-home assessment. You don't need to locate anything or even know whether you're on natural gas or propane. We'll trace what you have and factor it into the quote.
What we look for on the visit
When we come out, we find where your gas comes in, check the existing piping and its size, and measure the run from there to where the fireplace is going. Gas-line distance is one of the biggest cost drivers on an install, so we'd rather see it with our own eyes than take a guess over the phone.
If there's no gas at the house yet, that's fine too — running or extending the line is licensed work we do, and we'll scope it as part of the quote. Either way, you don't need to do any detective work before we arrive.
Natural gas or propane — we'll sort it
Where you live tells us a lot before we even open a panel. Natural-gas mains run through much of Asheville, Hendersonville, Fletcher, and Arden. Out in Fairview, Candler, Brevard, and the cabins tucked up our mountain roads, it's propane country — served by a tank rather than a street main.
The fuel changes the setup: propane burns hotter per unit and needs different orifices and pressures, and a wrong-fuel configuration soots. Part of the assessment is confirming your fuel and making sure the appliance is set up right for it. You don't have to know any of this going in.
Why the line drives your number
A short run to an existing, properly sized line is inexpensive. Thirty feet of new pipe across a crawlspace, or a fresh propane connection with a regulator, is more involved — and we permit and pressure-test every line we run, then meet the county inspector.
