Do WNC burn bans apply to wood-burning fire pits and outdoor fireplaces?

Arden's 1980s and 90s neighborhoods around Skyland and Avery Creek are settled and green, but many lots still meet stands of hardwood at the back fence. That transition from mowed yard to leaf litter is where an open fire is most likely to throw an ember into fuel — the reason a ban doesn't exempt a tidy suburban pit.

Indoors, these same homes are known for tired, drafty open masonry fireplaces that pull heat out of the room; a sealed insert turns one into a real heater. Outdoors, the fix for the ban question is different.

Which order applies

Arden is unincorporated Buncombe County, so bans here come from the county and the Forest Service. Some stop all open burning; some allow small, contained, attended fires within limits. A quick call to the Buncombe County fire marshal tells you what's active before you light.
