Does a propane fireplace need different or more frequent maintenance than a natural gas one?
Mars Hill splits two ways — easy-use gas fireplaces in the university-area rentals, and propane or wood heat out in the Spring Creek and Gabriels Creek valleys. For the propane homes, this answer's tuning details apply; for all of them, the schedule is identical: one service a year. It is one of the colder spots we serve. Two Mars Hills, one calendar
Near the university, the demand is for simple, reliable gas fireplaces — flame at the flip of a switch, minimal fuss, in homes and rentals that turn over with the academic year. Out in the Spring Creek and Gabriels Creek valleys, it is propane and wood. Different fuels, same maintenance rhythm for the gas units: one professional service a year. And because Mars Hill sits colder than most of the towns we serve, that visit should land at the end of summer, before the pilot has to work — spiders and dust foul a burner over the off-season no matter the fuel.
Propane and wood are different jobs
On the valley propane homes, the burner is where the attention goes: LP's higher pressure and smaller orifices mean the unit is tuned to the fuel, and a mismatch or rough conversion soots the glass. The wood-heat homes out here are a different maintenance animal entirely — those need a chimney sweep for creosote, not a burner tune-up. Both run on a once-a-year discipline; they just get different hands. New gas lines are permitted with Madison County. Call (828) 545-0525.
