Does Napoleon make ventless (vent-free) fireplaces?
Napoleon's fireplace lineup is built around sealed direct-vent models, not vent-free — that's what they're known for and what we install from them, like the Ascent 36. If you specifically want a true vent-free (ventless) heater, that's a different product category with real rules, and we carry vent-free options from Superior for the homes where it fits.
Napoleon's strength is direct-vent
Napoleon made its name on direct-vent gas fireplaces — sealed combustion units that pull air in and push exhaust out through a coaxial pipe, keeping the burning completely separated from your room air. That's the design behind our best-selling Ascent 36 and the linear Vector, and it's the safest, most flexible option for adding a fireplace to a home that never had one. So if you're shopping Napoleon, you're mostly shopping direct-vent, and honestly that's a feature, not a limitation.
What vent-free actually is — and its rules
Vent-free (ventless) gas fireplaces and log sets burn with the damper closed and no flue, so nearly all the heat stays in the room — which makes them efficient supplemental heaters. But they come with rules we take seriously: they add moisture and humidity to the house, they're limited by room size and BTU, they include an oxygen-depletion sensor (ODS) that shuts the unit off if oxygen drops, and they're restricted or outright prohibited in some applications — bedrooms and bathrooms in particular. Vent-free is safe when it's correctly sized, installed, maintained, and used within those limits. When in doubt, direct-vent sidesteps the whole question.

If a customer near Candler or Brevard genuinely wants vent-free heat, we carry Superior's vent-free line (like the VRT4036, 40,000 BTU, 99.9% efficient with an ODS).
