Old homes, aging flues

Flat Rock holds some of the oldest housing stock we work on — homes from the 1800s with oversized open masonry fireplaces and clay flue liners well past their prime. A burn ban never touches those indoor fires; it governs open outdoor burning like brush and debris.

But those old open hearths pull cold-air drafts into the room and lose most of their heat up the chimney, so if you're relying on one, a sealed gas or wood insert makes it a real heater while preserving the character. We handle the technical and gas side of that work.

The village and the county

Flat Rock is an incorporated village in Henderson County, so both the village and the county can weigh in on open burning, on top of the statewide list. A Historic Flat Rock or Highland Lake address may sit inside village limits; a place out toward Kanuga could be unincorporated county. Knowing which applies means one call to the right office instead of two.

Keep a fire through every ban
