City limits versus the county

Hendersonville is incorporated, so its fire department can declare an open-burning restriction tighter than Henderson County's or the state's. A Main Street home sits squarely inside those city limits. A newer place off Spartanburg Highway, or out toward Mountain Home and Etowah, may be unincorporated Henderson County, answering only to the county fire marshal and the state's county list.

Hendersonville's clay-heavy soil settles foundations and stresses older masonry chimneys, so if you lean on a wood fireplace during ban season, have the flue inspected in late summer. A burn ban won't stop your indoor fire, but a cracked liner or blocked flue will — and that's the failure we'd rather catch in September than during December's first cold snap.
