How do I reset my gas fireplace's ignition control module?
On most electronic-ignition fireplaces you reset a lockout by turning the unit fully off at the wall switch or remote, cutting power for 30–60 seconds — which on many models means pulling the batteries from the receiver — then powering back up and trying one clean ignition cycle. If it locks out again, stop and call a tech; something's blocking flame.
The basic reset — and its limits
A reset just clears the module's lockout memory so it will attempt ignition again. Kill the switch or remote, remove power for a minute (on battery-backup systems that usually means pulling the receiver batteries; on line-powered units, the wall switch or breaker), then restore it. That's the whole procedure, and it's genuinely all a homeowner should do. What we won't walk you through is anything past the reset — opening the valve train, jumping terminals, or adjusting gas pressure is licensed work, and in North Carolina that's ours, not a YouTube tutorial's.
If it locks right back out
A reset that fails a second time isn't a reset problem — it's telling you the unit still can't prove flame. Same short list every time: dirty flame sensor, weak or clogged pilot, tired batteries, or an air/fuel delivery issue. Clearing the lockout over and over won't fix any of those, and each cycle sparks live gas. This is the point to stop and let us look. While you're at it
If your fireplace has been locking out at the start of the season, it's usually overdue for its annual service.
