How long does it take to install a gas fire pit?
A gas fire pit usually installs in a day once the gas line is in — sometimes just an afternoon for a freestanding propane model, longer when we're running a new buried outdoor line out to a built-in pit. The stone or hardscape surround, if you're building one, is separate work by your landscaper that we time our part around.
Two very different fire pits
Install time splits along one line: freestanding versus built-in. A freestanding LP model like the Napoleon Uptown square fire pit is close to plug-and-play — we set it, connect it to propane, test the burner and ignition, and you're done in an afternoon. A built-in gas pit dropped into a stone or hardscape surround is a bigger day, because now there's a burner pan, a proper concealed gas connection, air relief, and full testing before anyone closes the structure up. Same flame, very different scope of work.
The gas line is what sets the clock
If there's already an outdoor gas stub near the patio, the pit itself goes fast. What adds time is running a new line to it. In North Carolina that's licensed work — we bury an outdoor-rated line, pull the permit, and pressure-test it before anything gets lit, and no showroom or hardscaper can legally do that part. Out in propane country — Fairview, Candler, Brevard, and the cabins tucked up our mountain roads — we set the regulator and piping and coordinate the tank with your propane supplier. On the Asheville and Hendersonville mains it ties into natural gas instead.
Coordinating with your hardscaper
We handle the gas and appliance side; the stone, pavers, or counter around the pit are your landscaper's scope, and we schedule our work around their build so the burner is tested before they close it in. Cool mountain evenings mean a fire pit earns its keep most of the year up here, so it's worth building it right rather than fast.
