What happens on fireplace installation day?
Our crew arrives, protects your floors and the work path, removes any old unit, then handles the framing, venting, and gas connection before setting and firing your new fireplace. We pressure-test the gas line, run the unit through its paces, walk you through operation, and clean up. Most gas installs finish in a single day.
How the day flows
We show up with the unit and everything to install it, lay down floor and path protection, and get to work. If there's an old fireplace or insert, that comes out first — disconnected safely and hauled off. Then comes the rough-in: framing if needed, the sealed direct-vent pipe out a sidewall or roof, and the gas line run or extended to the appliance. We set the unit, level it, and make the final connections. It's steady, methodical work, and there's some noise and dust in the middle of it — normal for the trade.
Testing and the permit
Before anything burns, we pressure-test the gas line — that's non-negotiable and it's the part a showroom or handyman legally can't do in North Carolina. We confirm the venting draws, light the unit, and dial in the flame and blower. We also pull the permit with your county — Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, or Transylvania — and meet the inspector, because permitted work is what protects your home sale and your homeowner's insurance down the road. Unpermitted gas work can quietly void that coverage.
Before we leave
Once it's running right, we walk you through operating it — the remote or wall switch, the flame and blower controls, and how the battery-backup or millivolt ignition gives you heat if the power drops, which after Helene is exactly why a lot of folks call us. Then we clean the work area, wipe the glass, hand over your paperwork and warranty, and haul the debris away. Most gas installs wrap in a day; wood-burning and chimney jobs usually run two to three.
