Can I use my new fireplace the same day it's installed?
Most of the time, yes — once we've pressure-tested the gas line, checked the venting, and fired it up during the walkthrough, a gas fireplace is ready to use that evening. The main exceptions are jobs waiting on a county inspection sign-off, wet paint or mortar that needs to cure, or a wood build where the chimney isn't finished yet.
Gas: usually the same evening
A direct-vent gas fireplace or insert is typically good to go the day we install it. By the time we leave, we've pressure-tested the line, confirmed the venting draws, and burned the unit during your walkthrough — so lighting it that night is exactly what it's built for. Expect one quirk: a faint odor for the first few burns as the paints and oils on a brand-new firebox cure off. That's normal and temporary — crack a window, let it run, and it clears within a handful of burns.
When you'll need to wait
A few situations push first use past install day. If your jurisdiction requires the county inspector to sign off before the appliance goes into service, we wait for that green light. If your fireplace got a fresh stone or tile face, wet thinset, grout, or mortar needs time to cure before real heat hits it. And a wood-burning fireplace can't be used until its Class A chimney is fully complete — often the reason those jobs span two to three days. We'll tell you which of these applies to your project before we leave.
It also depends on the type
Electric units are the instant gratification of the bunch — a Dimplex plugs in and runs the moment it's mounted, no fuel, no venting, no cure time. Direct-vent gas is same-day in most cases. Wood waits on the flue. Whatever you're having installed, we won't leave you guessing about when it's safe to enjoy — you'll get a clear yes or a clear 'wait until' with the reason.
