The only real winter variables are frozen ground for a buried outdoor or propane line and holiday-season scheduling, so it pays to book a little ahead.
Busy months, not off-limits
People want a working hearth exactly when it's cold, so December through February is heavy for us — not a downtime. After Helene reminded Western NC how fast the grid can go down for days, demand for gas and wood heat you can actually rely on climbed hard in the cold months. An indoor direct-vent gas fireplace or an insert installs perfectly well in freezing weather; we're inside your home, sealing the unit and running the vent, no matter what the thermometer says outside.
What the cold actually changes
A few things do shift in winter. A buried outdoor gas line or a propane run gets slower and more labor-intensive once the ground is frozen. Wood and chimney jobs open the roof or flue briefly — we button those up the same day, but a hard freeze or snow can push a date. And on our mountain roads around Fairview, Candler, or up toward Cashiers, ice occasionally forces us to reschedule for safety. None of that stops the job; it just asks for a little flexibility.
The real catch is the calendar
The thing that trips people up isn't the cold — it's the book-up. By the first freeze our install weeks are filling, and a special-order unit still has its own factory lead time on top.
