Can a fireplace be installed in the winter?

Yes — Brevard installs happen all winter, though out here the fuel shapes the timing. Much of Brevard and its surrounding cabins run on propane, and a buried propane line gets slower to trench once the ground freezes. An indoor direct-vent gas fireplace, by contrast, seals inside your home and goes in cold-weather or not.

Propane country, and what winter does to the line

Brevard sits in propane country — the downtown homes and the cabins tucked up toward Cedar Mountain and Connestee Falls mostly burn LP, not natural gas. That matters in winter because the one job the cold genuinely slows is a buried or extended propane run through frozen ground. The appliance side isn't affected: a Kozy Heat Springfield 36 or another propane-rated unit installs indoors on schedule. We're a licensed gas contractor, so we handle the regulator, piping, and appliance setup and pressure-test the line — the tank itself we coordinate with your propane supplier.

Wet-country chimneys and moisture damage

Transylvania County catches 80-plus inches of rain a year, and it shows in the hearths we see — cracked crowns, spalled brick, rusted dampers, and moisture creeping into chimney chases and crawl spaces. Winter is a fine time to correct that with a sealed insert and a fresh liner, which is interior work a freeze doesn't touch. If your job is a wood or chimney repair that opens the flue, we button it up the same day, though a hard rain or snow can nudge the date.

Forty minutes out — book before the ground hardens

We're roughly forty minutes southwest of our Asheville showroom, and we pull the Transylvania County permit and meet the inspector on the job. If any part of your project touches an outdoor or extended propane line, starting the conversation in fall — before the ground freezes hard — keeps the whole thing on one visit rather than a weather-delayed second trip. A special-order unit carries its own lead time on top. Call (828) 545-0525 to get on the winter schedule.
