Can a fireplace be installed in the winter?
Yes — and Black Mountain's cold mornings are a reason to, not against it. Swannanoa Valley temperature inversions pool cold air overnight, so your mornings can run 10 to 15 degrees below Asheville's. We install through winter; with natural gas serving much of town, a sealed direct-vent unit goes in from inside in a day or two.
Inversion mornings and a hearth that's ready
The Swannanoa Valley traps cold air under the ridges, which is why Black Mountain frost dates run later into spring and mornings feel sharper than the short drive from Asheville would suggest. A working fireplace is what takes the edge off those mornings, and there's no reason to wait for warmer weather to add one. Natural gas runs much of town, so most installs here are a clean interior job — set the unit, run the coaxial vent, connect and pressure-test the line — finished regardless of the overnight low.
Montreat's shaded, damp lots
Up toward Montreat, heavily wooded lots keep houses cool, shaded, and moisture-prone, and that dampness is hard on masonry chimneys over the years. A sealed gas insert with a fresh liner both warms the room and closes off a flue that's been drawing cold, damp air — interior work a January freeze doesn't slow. If your project is a wood or chimney job that opens the flue, we close it up the same day, though heavy snow can move a date.
Fifteen minutes east, Buncombe permit
We're only about fifteen minutes east of the showroom, so getting an installer to downtown Black Mountain, Ridgecrest, or Montreat for a measurement is quick, and we pull the Buncombe County permit and meet the inspector on the job. The winter catch isn't the cold — it's the calendar. December through February is our busiest run, and special-order units carry factory lead time.
