How much does a wood stove cost installed?
In Black Mountain, temperature inversions in the Swannanoa Valley can leave mornings 10 to 15 degrees colder than Asheville, and frost lingers into late spring, so a wood stove runs a long season here. The installed cost, though, comes down mostly to the chimney: lining a sound existing flue is affordable, while building a new Class A system is where it climbs.
Cold valley, long burn season
Because inversions pool cold air in the valley and Montreat's heavily wooded lots keep houses shaded and cool, stoves here work more months of the year, which makes doing a real heater right worth it. Montreat and downtown homes with a sound masonry chimney get a correctly sized liner; homes without a wood flue need Class A pipe run high enough to draft over the surrounding ridges and the tall trees that cause downdrafts. Those shaded, moisture-prone lots also mean we check the existing masonry for damp damage before reusing it.
Buncombe permit, right-sized stove
We pull the permit through Buncombe County and meet the inspector on the hearth pad, clearances, and chimney height. For a cold valley we usually recommend the Regency Cascades F1500, up to 1,500 square feet, and caution against oversizing, which only makes a stove smolder. Black Mountain is 15 minutes east of our Asheville showroom, so scheduling the assessment is easy.
Heat when the grid's down
Wood is total grid independence, the reason so many valley families added a stove after Helene's multi-day outages. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free in-home assessment.
