Ceramic logs are a different animal. In a sealed direct-vent fireplace, the log set is engineered for that exact firebox — each log positioned so the flame doesn't impinge where it shouldn't. What moves the price

Availability is the swing factor. Logs for current Napoleon or Heat & Glo models are straightforward to get; a set for a fireplace built two decades ago can take some hunting, and a discontinued set occasionally forces a bigger conversation. Open vented setups are simpler in one way — you're replacing the whole log set, and that's really an upgrade decision.
