Outdoor fireplace or fire pit — which is better for my patio design?

In Candler, fuel depends on where you are — newer Enka-Candler subdivisions may reach a gas main while much of Hominy Valley runs on propane, so we confirm yours first. Either way, in the valley's natural bowl a clean-burning gas fire pit or fireplace beats wood smoke that lingers. A pit is social and modest; a fireplace anchors and shelters the patio.

Confirm the fuel before anything

Candler's fast-growing subdivisions tend to come with basic, decorative builder-grade fireboxes, and owners here usually want a real, heat-producing upgrade within a few years. Outdoors, the first step is the fuel: a gas main may reach the newer Enka-Candler streets, while propane is common out toward Hominy Valley and the Pisgah Highway side. Propane needs its own orifices and pressures, set for LP, with the tank coordinated through your supplier — so we verify exactly what you have before we spec a fire pit or fireplace.

Air quality in the bowl

Hominy Valley's natural bowl tends to trap air, which is why clean-burning sealed appliances are attractive here — and it applies outside too. A gas fire pit or fireplace gives you flame without the wood smoke that can settle in the valley. If you still want wood's crackle and grid independence, we do that, sited and drafted correctly for the setting. Gas, though, stays instant with nothing to chase, and no haze hanging over the patio.

Buncombe permit, one crew

The gas connection is licensed work, so we pull the Buncombe County permit, pressure-test the line, and meet the inspector — one accountable crew for the appliance, the fuel, and the paperwork. A pit stays the social, budget pick; a fireplace is the anchor and windbreak. We're 15 minutes west of our Emma Road showroom. Call (828) 545-0525.
