What are Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 chimney inspections?
In rural Leicester, where large properties lean on wood heat and propane and some remote homes have limited electrical capacity, the fuel you burn drives the inspection. NFPA 211 defines three: a Level 1 yearly check, a Level 2 camera scan for changes and events, and an invasive Level 3. A wood chimney that's had a fire, or a propane conversion, both land in the middle tier.
Wood heat means a hard-working flue
Wood heat is popular on Leicester's big rural lots — it's grid-independent, which matters where electrical capacity is limited and cold-air drainage runs the valleys five to eight degrees below Asheville on clear nights. A wood-burner that's the primary heat needs its Level 1 every year without fail: an accessible-parts check for creosote and obstruction, paired with a sweep.
