What are my options for a gas fireplace if my neighborhood doesn't have natural gas?

Where the main gives out
Black Mountain is a natural-gas town at its core, but the terrain decides where the line goes. Montreat's heavily shaded lots, the coves up toward Ridgecrest, and the older Swannanoa Valley properties often sit past the last tap — and that's propane country by default. There's nothing second-tier about it. Every major brand we carry offers an LP version or ships convertible, so a Heat & Glo or Napoleon unit looks and heats the same as it would on the main.
Built for a colder valley
Swannanoa Valley inversions leave Black Mountain mornings 10 to 15 degrees colder than Asheville, with frost lingering later into spring, so a fireplace here needs to actually heat. A sealed propane direct-vent unit or a gas insert delivers that, and the wooded, moisture-prone lots around Montreat make a strong case for skipping an aging masonry flue entirely. Your propane supplier sets and fills the tank; we run and pressure-test the line, set the unit for LP, pull the Buncombe County permit, and meet the inspector.
The outage angle
