What does a chimney sweep actually do during a cleaning?
In Mills River, fuel drives the visit: many of these rural large-lot homes run on propane or wood rather than a natural-gas main, so a sweep here means the full brush-and-vacuum on wood flues and a service-and-vent-check on sealed propane units. We match the job to what's actually piped or burning at your property.
Propane country sets the terms
Out among the farmland and forest of the Mills River valley, homes sit on large lots well off the gas main, and a good share burn propane or wood. A sealed propane fireplace doesn't get a wood-style sweep — it gets an annual service, with the burner, venting, and connections checked. The wood-burners and inserts do get swept: we seal the firebox, run a sealed HEPA vacuum at the hearth, and brush the flue, smoke shelf, and damper until the creosote's gone. Knowing which you have before we arrive keeps the visit right-sized, and we'd rather send the right one than the most expensive one.
Reading the flue while we're in it
A sweep is also a checkup. As we brush, we're looking at the liner for cracks, the crown and cap for damage, and the flashing where the chimney meets the roof, plus any nests animals left over the off-season. On a rural property that's the difference between catching a small problem and finding out the hard way on the coldest night. If we find a liner past saving or a wood-to-gas conversion you want, that gas work is licensed — we permit it through Henderson County and pressure-test the line.
And the outdoor season
The open Mills River valley is made for outdoor living, and a lot of homes here have a gas fire pit that also earns a look before entertaining season. We're about 25 minutes south of our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 545-0525 to book your sweep and any tune-up together.
