What's the difference between a natural gas and a propane fireplace?
In Brevard, plan on propane. Transylvania County is propane country — the cabins tucked into the woods and most homes outside the immediate downtown store their fuel in a tank on the property rather than tapping a utility main. The fireplace itself is the same appliance; it's simply spec'd for LP's higher pressure and smaller orifice so the flame and heat come out right.
Propane, and the wet-country hardware it lives with
Brevard sees 80-plus inches of rain a year, and that moisture is hard on everything metal — it cracks chimney crowns, spalls brick, and rusts dampers and caps, with the wettest stretch running March through June. On a gas job it means we pay close attention to the regulator, vent terminations, and any outdoor-rated piping, because damp mountain air finds weak points fast. A sealed direct-vent unit sidesteps the aging masonry flue entirely, which in this climate is often the smarter move.
The right propane appliance for a cabin
For the cabins around Connestee Falls and Sherwood Forest, a Kozy Heat Springfield 36 is a proven propane heater; for timber-frame and mountain-modern homes, a Mendota FullView is the luxury centerpiece and the most convincing wood-fire look we sell, also on LP. Both deliver full rated heat from a tank.
Who can legally make it burn
Connecting propane — regulator, piping, appliance setup — is licensed gas work; the tank is coordinated with your supplier, but the fuel connection is ours. We pull the Transylvania County permit, pressure-test, and meet the inspector. Brevard is about 40 minutes southwest of our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free assessment.
