What's the mechanical difference between a natural gas and a propane fireplace?
Clyde's 1960s-80s ranch homes are full of dated fireplaces ready for insert upgrades, and Haywood County here is mixed fuel — some homes reach natural gas, others run propane. An insert is the same casting regardless; propane gets smaller orifices and an LP regulator, natural gas the wider jetting. The fuel at your address sets the calibration.
Old ranch fireboxes, modern jetted inserts
The dated fireboxes in Clyde's ranch-style builds are prime candidates for a sealed insert — a real efficiency jump over an open box that loses heat up the flue. When we drop one in, it gets jetted for whichever fuel the home has: on natural gas that's larger orifices at steady utility pressure, on propane it's tighter orifices and a regulator set for LP's higher pressure. The upgrade is the same appliance; the fuel decides the fuel train.
