What size propane tank do I need to run a gas fireplace or log set at home?

Brevard is propane country — most homes and cabins here run on a tank rather than a gas main, so the tank size is the whole question. One fireplace or log set does fine on a 120- or 250-gallon tank; add whole-house propane and we point toward 500 gallons. Transylvania's heavy rain also shapes where that tank sits.

Out here the tank is the fuel supply, not a backup plan

Unlike the Asheville and Hendersonville mains, Brevard leans on propane — downtown homes and the cabins around Connestee Falls, Sherwood Forest, and Pisgah Forest almost all draw from a tank. So sizing it correctly is the job, not an afterthought.

A single sealed gas fireplace — a Kozy Heat Springfield 36 is a common propane-country choice — is a light seasonal draw, and a 120-gallon (about 420-lb) or buried 250-gallon tank covers it. When a range, dryer, water heater, or furnace share the fuel, 500 gallons keeps peak demand from starving the fireplace.

Transylvania rain changes tank and regulator placement

Brevard sees 80-plus inches of rain a year, with a long wet season, and standing moisture is hard on outdoor gas equipment — it rusts fittings and can foul an exposed regulator. Where the tank goes, how the regulator's shielded, and how the buried line is protected all matter more here than in a dry climate.

Your propane supplier sets and fills the tank; we're the licensed gas contractor for the regulator, the run, the LP orifice and pressure, the Transylvania County permit, and the pressure test.

Backup heat for a wet, storm-prone corner

When the power drops, a millivolt or battery-backup propane fireplace still heats — a real advantage in a county where storms and outages come with the rainfall. That only holds with fuel in the tank, so we don't size tight.
