What size wood stove do I need for my square footage?

In Maggie Valley, you're on propane at 3,000-plus feet, often heating a rental cabin that sits idle then has to warm up for guests. Size to the cabin's living space and keep it simple — a small-to-medium stove a guest can run without choking it down. Most cabins here don't need a large stove; they need the right one, easy to operate.

Rental cabins need forgiving sizing

A vacation rental is a specific sizing problem. The stove sits cold for stretches, then a guest who's never run a wood stove needs it to heat the place fast and safely. An oversized stove is exactly wrong for that — a guest will pack it, get too hot, and choke the air down, which smolders the fire and coats the flue with creosote you'll be paying to clean. A stove sized to the cabin runs hot and clean at a normal load, so even an inexperienced guest gets a good, safe fire.

Coldest community we serve

At 3,020 feet, Maggie Valley is one of the coldest spots we cover, so within a right-sized choice we still lean toward the upper end of a range — a cabin here loses heat fast on a single-digit night. The catch is balancing that against the small footprint of most cabins, which is why the sweet spot is usually a well-built small-to-medium stove burning near its rated output. We carry EPA-certified Regency stoves and install and service Jotul, HearthStone, and Quadra-Fire.

Pre-season service, and the drive out

Because these fireplaces go idle for weeks, a pre-season inspection before the peak rental months is not optional — spiders and dust clog burners and pilots over the off-season, and you don't want a guest arriving to a stove that won't light. We pull the Haywood County permit on installs and meet the inspector. We're about 40 minutes west of the Asheville showroom, so plan service ahead. Call (828) 545-0525.
