What size wood stove do I need for my square footage?

In Mars Hill, rural Spring Creek and Gabriels Creek homes already lean on wood and propane, so a stove here is usually real heat — size it to genuinely warm your main living space. It's one of the colder spots we serve, which nudges you toward the upper end of a stove's range, often a medium for a typical valley home.

Wood country wants a real heater

Out in the Spring Creek and Gabriels Creek valleys, wood and propane are how homes get through winter, and folks here aren't shopping for ambiance — they want a stove that carries the house. That means sizing for primary heat: match the stove to the space it has to hold through a cold Madison County night, and lean toward the top of a rated range because Mars Hill runs colder than the valley towns. A stove that's a hair too big beats one that can't keep up when it's in the single digits. Layout counts too — an open plan lets one stove spread its heat, while chopped-up rooms hold it in.

A hedge against propane

For homes on propane, wood does double duty — it's the backup when a delivery is delayed or a snap spikes demand, and it's heat you can produce yourself with a saw and a splitter. Sizing it as a true heater, not a decoration, is what makes that hedge real. We carry EPA-certified Regency stoves, including the Cascades F1500 rated to around 1,500 square feet, and install and service Jotul, HearthStone, Lopi, and Quadra-Fire. We pull the Madison County permit and set the stove on a Class A chimney or properly sized liner.
