Where are the controls hidden on my gas fireplace?
On nearly every modern gas fireplace, the controls hide behind the lower louver grille or a removable panel below the glass. Back there you'll find the OFF/PILOT/ON gas knob, the piezo igniter button, and the receiver with its ON/OFF/REMOTE switch and batteries. The decorative front usually lifts off, unclips, or pulls straight away — no sealed glass to disturb.
Behind the lower grille, almost always
On nearly every modern gas fireplace, the controls hide behind the louvered grille or a slim panel below the glass. Get that off and you'll find the OFF/PILOT/ON gas knob, the piezo igniter button you press to spark the pilot, and the receiver box with its ON/OFF/REMOTE switch and batteries — and each one is labeled right there on the panel. The decorative front comes away different ways depending on the brand: some lift up and out, some unclip, some are held by hidden magnets, a few have a screw or two. It's meant to be removable; you shouldn't need tools beyond maybe a screwdriver.
Log sets, older units, and fire pits are different
Not everything hides in the same place. A match-lit gas log set is run by a key valve recessed into the floor or wall a few feet away, not a panel. Older millivolt fireplaces sometimes pair a wall switch with a knob tucked behind a decorative screen or surround. And on a gas fire pit, the controls live under the lid or behind a small access door in the base, next to the propane tank. When in doubt, look low and look for a removable cover.
